JENUKALLU GUDDA
We took a trekking to Jenukallu Gudda (jenukal Gudda) which is located in Sakleshpur Taluk but we can travel from Mudigere Taluk also, yes road condition is far better when it is compared to Mudigere and it is near too, we have started all the way from Hassan District and we have reached sakleshpur around 7:40 AM it is 40 KM away from district place, we had our breakfast at Srinivasa Hotel near NH road, later we took our way to Hanubalu Road, which is on the way to Mangalore road (NH 75), While passing on NH 75 near Anemahal, you will notice a small board on right side stating Hanubal road (You Could ask localities for more accurately to route) , take right turn from their, then the golden journey begins, you will enjoy the Natures best place where the green stands as long as mountains.
We have crossed Hebbasale, Raxidi, Hanbalu and we have reached devaladakere, then we headed towards devarunda raod to reach Devarunda, you will see the board mentioned as "Bairaveshwara temple" (Before Devarunda), we just followed the board direction and we have reached the below place Bairaveshwara temple of Devarunda which comes in mularahalli and Mekanagadde area.
We have started to trek the Jenukallu gudda around 9:30 AM we have followed the vehicle road to track the way to jenukal gudda , we were thinking we can reach the top of the mountain easily as we reached Ettina bhuja, NO :-( we were wrong, taking one foot step is hard on these mountains, because shallow depth of grass which is 1.5 to 2 feet, i suggest to carry 2 liter water per person before you completely dried out. We have also trek the nearby mountain, it's evening around 4:00 PM we have reached nearby home-stay where we got refreshed and way back to our home saying good bye to the fantastic journey.
Note : In Monsoon Leeches will be common and problematic for trekking, winter or Summer is the best seasons to visit this place..

Hello,
Delete1. Can we start early morning via Car(5 A.M) reach Sakleshpur at 10 A.M and then to Bairaveshwara temple route (Before Devarunda).Start the trecking from there ?
Yes, no problem as this is a winter cannot accept the rain. If you start around 11:30 AM you can get down around 4:00 PM

Yes, usually nobody visiting these remote place OR you could park your vehicle nearby home which is before the temple..
3. Do we get any guide for trekking ?
No, if any villager passing on the way, you could ask.., just follow the vehicle road to trek the mountain.
4. How much does it take to trek and how far is jenukallu-gudda from Bairaveshwara temple?
I suggest following the vehicle road to find the path to jenukal gudda.
Thank you :-)
Hey Sharat. Enjoyed reading ur detailed blog and nice snaps...
ReplyDeleteI wanted to do this trek this monsoon.. so had some questions..
Is permission reqd from forest dept? if yes then from where.
How about trek path? can we figure it out? or chances of getting lost? bcoz v are travelling in group of 8..so don't want to take risk..
Ur reply would be appreciated...
Hello Adi,
DeleteThanks for the comment,
Answers as below
Is permission reqd from forest dept? if yes then from where - No and nothing from anyone.
How about trek path? Can we figure it out? Or chances of getting lost? bcoz v are travelling in group of 8..so don't want to take risk.. - We have followed the path looking at the Jenukal Gudda I believe if you are more than 5 in number that will provide more confidant to find the track to the mountain.
Thank you
So basically we don't have to take any permission to enter forest range?
ReplyDeleteAs of now nothing.
Deleteand can we ride to climb, BULLETEERS!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Rakesh,
DeleteAs you can see the above temple image, you could park your vehicle, i don't think any bike or utility vehicle can climb the Jenukal gudda. Trekking path is in completely dense trees and grass lands.
one more thing, note your trekking path while going to Jenukal gudda and get down in the same route, missing chances will be more in these areas !.
Thanks and Regards,
Sharath

ReplyDeleteHi Sharath,
ReplyDeleteVery nice blog. I have gone through most of your blogs and happy to mention that you have that hunger and passion for photography and adventure. Nice to get associated with you through this blog; my email id baba2004@gmail.com for further connects.
We are a group of 8-10 people who keep trekking once a year (at least). This time we want to explore Jenukallu. We usually carry our tent and camp on top of the hill and start to base camp next day morning.
So, considering this could you suggest how do we accomplish it.
Are there water streams on the way /up the hill?
Do people camp there? Do you see any such camping signs?
How about permissions for trekking and camping.
Appreciate your response.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Baba
First of all I thank you for your comments.
DeleteCamping near jeunkal gudda is one of the best idea, and people do camping here. however lack of water on the top of mountain could be a problem, I suggest you to camp near the temple, where water facility is good. As far as I know there is no permission is required to camp and for tracking the mountain. Hope I have answered your questions. Thank you.

How much far is the trek distance in kms??
DeleteIt's approximately 3 km from the starting point to the top of jenukall gudda.
.. And the what are things we need to carry ??
Water and carry some food. Water is costly while climbing. Carry at least 2 liter water per individual.
If you start at 8AM you can get down in the afternoon. Yes you can visit manjarabad fort if you reach fort before 5pm.

You will mess up with lots of Leaches in monsoon, September or end of September will be the suitable time for trekking

Sharath
hello sharath,
ReplyDeletewe are planning for tomo. is tis the right time fr trekking?
cant we take car over top? olny trekking is the option?
regards.
Mukesh
This is not the right time because heavy monsoon with lot of Leaches could be impossible for trekking.
DeleteVehicles cannot go to the top of the mountain there is a temple and having a parking area for vehicles. Yes trekking is the only option to reach the top.

Sharath
Hi Mahesh,
DeleteHow was your experience ? Were you able to trek to the top of the peak? Anything that we need to take care of before the trek?
Hello Sharath, We have planned a trek to this place tomorrow.

Rahul

DeleteAnd moreover no need to worry as there are several Homes near by so you can darely park your vehicle.
2. Yes the trail is visible upto the top of the mountain.

Sharath
This water fall comes near to the city outskirts, however the Jenukallu Gudda is located in Hanubalu which is approximate 40 KM from Sakleshpur.

The place itself witness for chilling.
ReplyDeleteMonitoring is routine in forest land from jurisdiction of forest officer's, and we have seen forest Ranger jeep while we coming down and they enquired us on where we went, we managed it gently.
Staying out as unknown may brings lot of problems. Hope the place is enough to say beautiful but not the officer's.
