4th day started with nagara fort at nagara in Hosanagara taluk, It is 17 km from Hosanagara and 84 km from Shimoga, which is previously known bidanur. School children's surprised for our visit to this fort, obviously we too in our childhood. Enjoyed the Happy moments we moved forward to chakra and savehaklu reservoirs.

Information seen in Nagara fort.

The contemporary literature “Keladi Nripavijayam” in Kannada language available records that nagar was won over by Hiriya Venkatappa Nayaka (1505 –1552) during his expansion of the kingdom from the honneya Kambali rulers. In 1561 his successor Veerabhadranayaka made this capital and Shivappa Nayaka (1645 –1665) ascended the throne at nagar (Bidanur) who fortified and added many a structure. Built in stone masonry, the fort is entered through a sleep ramp leading to the main entrance from the north the gateway is flanked by two bastions and has a sally port on the left side.

The fort is almost irregular hexagonal on plan having a series of bastions in apsidal, circular and squarish plan at regular intervals. Above the masonry wall raises the thick parapet with a series of musket holes. A number of guard rooms are provided in the interior wall abutting the exterior fort wall is deep moat with retaining walls running around.

The ramp through this gateway leads to a stepped tank to the north-west and remains of the palace to the east in the northern half of the fort the tank has many entrances with flights of steps and is popularly known as sister’s tank as it is divided in to two parts.

The palace building is rectangular on plan, accommodating series of rooms and halls. The large open area to the west seems to have been used to accommodate the audience hall. A steep ramp provided at the south western end of the open courtyard abutting the outer fort wall leads to an observatory tower. On the whole, the structural remains scattered inside the fort, though the ruins, provided a representative specimen of a medieval layout forts.
